THE main objective of the division is to ensure the info-structure in Perak complies with national and international standards enabling the people to get connection in every major town easily and ultimately, wirelessly statewide.

Broadband Access

• To ascertain the quality and reliability of broadband services to the industrial and commercial sector
• To assist and facilitate ISP and broadband service providers towards increasing the state broadband penetration from:

a) 12.7% in 2007
b) to 35% by year 2012
c) and 50% by 2015

Wireless Perak & Fiber Optic Connection

• To provide Wi-Fi services to major towns
• 40 base stations out from 108 base stations have been set up
• Each major towns will allocate an area for free internet access to the community
• Engaging provider to lay fiber optic cables, initially, in the city and eventually, in most major towns such as Lumut, Manjung and Taiping.

KPerak Community Broadband

• To provide internet services with ADSL and Wi-Fi connectivity beginning year 2010 to:

a) 3,000 communities in new township and housing schemes in the urban fringes each year
b) Small towns and villages by setting up 300 access points (AP) at strategic locations every year

• Offering affordable PC and broadband

Development of Local Content

• Collaborate with ICT entrepreneurs to develop local contents portals
• To encourage the production and availability of local contents to reduce dependency and traffic of the outside contents.
