6 AUGUST 2008 – ANAK PERAK 2008
From tin mines to MIND industries.  The silver state's tagline in promoting and creating a K-State by the year 2020 via ICT.  KPerak INC Corporation together with the State Department of Education in Perak, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Yayasan Perak and Sapura Technology,  the Anak Perak 2008 programme was born.

This is part of the KPerak 2010 Initiative to create skilled workers as well as to extend the capabilities of the participants to move beyond the coundaries of ICT and to create a Knowledge Society.  The objective of this programme is to create more content developers instead of content consumers and also to create more skilled ICT workers by inculcating the students interests towards the ICT industry via creative application development.  The primary and secondary school children's interest in ICT and creative content are stimulated and moulded into becoming future content developers.

It is through this Anak Perak programme that the involvement and learning of creative content development amongst the schools in Perak are promoted. This year, a different approach was used.  Instead of sending letters to schools requesting for their cooperation, the committee sent out application forms to all the schools and the response was tremendous.  The outcome was even better than expected.

Over 70 applications were received within the first two weeks after the application forms were released showing a tremendous interest in the Anak Perak 2008.

Conducted for the Primary and Secondary Schools in Perak for five (5) and six (6) days respectively, 71 schools and a total of 355 students and teachers alike got a taste of what it's like to program and produce their own computer program.

The workshops held during June 12-16, 2008 and June 12-17, 2008 mimicked the previous years workshops in terms of training as well as the fun and games with the objectives – encourage creative thinking and to create content developers instead of content consumers.

The primary school teams were taugh multimedia production via GIMP, Audacity, Movie Maker and TabKids whereas the secondary school teams were taugh programming via Java Application.

The closing ceremonies for the primary and secondary schools were held on the last days of their respective workshops.  The closing ceremony for primary schools was officiated by Professor Dato' Dr Aminah bt Ayob, the Vice Chancellor for UPSI and the closing ceremony for secondary schools was officiated by Professor Madya Dr Mohd Noh Karsiti, the Director of Post Graduate Studies, UTP.

The products were then held in a competition by exhibition on July 28-29, 2008 at the Convention Centre, Level 6, Perak Techno-Trade Centre where by the schools exhibited their products subject to be judged by six judges from the creative content industry.

The final results were announced on July 31, 2008 in conjunction with Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris's Hari ICT where the champs walked away with an iPod Nano each.
