IMeru Raya received the recognition status of an MSC Malaysia Cybercentre on 18th May 2007 from the YAB Dato’ Seri DiRaja Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia during the 10th MSC International Advisory Panel Meeting in Putrajaya.  

This recognition has placed MSC Malaysia Cybercentre @ Meru Raya in the MSC fraternity with other MSC Cybercentres and Cybercities throughout the country.

MSC Malaysia Cybercentre @ Meru Raya is a Perak State Government initiative under the KPerak2010 vision. Perak State Government, through its GLC, Perak Corporation Berhad has allocated 209 acres of land within the Bandar Meru Raya (Ipoh’s newest township) for the development of three main components:

•    Social Infrastructure
•    Anchor & Stimulator Projects
•    ICT Industries

The MSC Malaysia Cybercentre @ Meru Raya will be launched by the Prime Minister on 23rd October 2007 at the Padang Ipoh in the state’s capital. MSC Malaysia Cybercentre @ Meru Raya strives to attain Perak’s status as a leader in the ICT industry and in the delivery of ICT enhanced services as well as a new investment haven for technology related ventures in Malaysia.


FROM TIN MINES TO MIND INDUSTRIES


The development of MSC Malaysia Cybercentre @ Meru Raya will further develop Perak’s economy. The MSC Malaysia Cybercentre @ Meru Raya will serve as a platform to boost the state’s economy by using ICT as a sector as well as enabler.

As a sector, the Perak State Government will develop ICT industry into four ICT sub-sectors, known as the MIND industries (MIND is an acronym of Multimedia Content, ICT Outsourcing, New Media and Design & Device). To support the development of these sub-sectors, ICT will be used as an enabler through the 5K plan (K-Government, K-Economy, K-Society, K-Infrastructure and K-Workers). Ultimately, with these programmes, it is intended that the vision (KPerak2010) will be able to turn Perak into a developed and full-fledged Knowledge State by the year 2020.

To spearhead the development in this area, two state agencies namely KPerak INC Corporation and Perak State Economic Development Corporation have been tasked to ensure successful implementation of vision KPerak2010.
