19 May 2008 – PERAK'S PARTICIPATION IN THE 16TH WORLD CONGRESS ON INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY 2008 (WCIT2008)

For the upcoming 16th WCIT (World Congress on Information Technology), Perak is taking part as a State Partner and leverage on it to lure investments for the Silver State's emerging ICT industry. With her participation in this international event, Perak will be paving the way to network and attract foreign workers to her shores.
Perak will be represented by KPerak INC Corporation with the support from PCB Development Sdn Bhd and the Perak State Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and together with five MSC Malaysia Status Companies with the theme “The Malaysian Creative Multimedia Content Hub”
Themed to be the next Creative Multimedia Content Hub of the region, the MSC Malaysia Cybercentre @ Meru Raya, Perak will definitely help to promote growth in this sector for the coming years. One of the largest investors in the Creative Multimedia Content industry – Spacetoon Media Group (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd will be joining the congress as one of the exhibitors in the Perak State Pavilion.
For Spacetoon, their project in Perak is to build a Spacetoon Media Hub which will encompass an area of 50 acres allocated by SEDC. This Media Hub will serve as a production house and training facilities for the global market. The Academy is expected to be in operations in 2009 and will serve the South East Region and Pacific Ocean Communities.
While waiting for the hub to be set up, Spacetoon will occupy the 15th Floor at the Perak Techno-Trade Centre to start off their production house/labs with a capacity for 200 animators. The production house/lab is currently in design mode and will be ready to house the animators in three (3) months after the design is confirmed.
The Perak State Government is pumping RM20 million to help Spacetoon set up their operations here in Perak as well as helping to supply the demand for their human capital. The whole project is expected to cost more than RM 70 million.
Perak will be showcasing her best in the ICT and Creative Multimedia Content industries during this congress which includes ICT Solutions Provider, an internationally established creative multimedia company, E-learning content and applications developer, business process outsourcing and technology consulting as well as an Online Business Directory and Consumer Platform.
The five companies which are joining the Perak State Pavilion are – GreenEarth Technovations Sdn Bhd, Spacetoon Media Group (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Privasia Sdn Bhd, Alvanet Multimedia Services Sdn Bhd and Hiroshi Industries Sdn Bhd.
For the WCIT2008, the Perak Pavilion will be the only one which is disabled friendly by installing a Free Chairlift. A Freelift chairlift (sometimes called “stairlift”) comprises a chair and a customized rail/track. The customized rail is fixed to the floor/steps of the staircase, not touching the wall, and the chair runs along the rail/track powered by common DC batteries. Thanks to its ingenious Dutch engineering, the lift can be made to fit any staircase, no matter how steep or winding. What’s more, the chairlift can be installed within one day, without any alteration to the stairs, walls or handrailings. Uncomprised safety is a crucial factor for chairlift manufacturers, and FREELIFT has every possible situation covered. Several safety sensors on and around the chair ensure that the lift stops automatically when encountering any obstacles on the stairs.
EuroAsia has done various chairlift rentals for other conferences and meetings and as well as two permanent lifts for at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre to go up the stage at the Plenary Hall and the Auditorium.
WCIT 2008 will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on May 18 – 22, 2008 and the five day event is expected to draw more than 2,500 delegates from over 80 countries.
WCIT2008 also incorporates a three-day congress to address global impact issues, a Link Program for business matching – Business-to-business (B2B), Business-to-government (B2G) and Business-to-industry (B2I) meetings, an ICT exhibition, debate on current ICT issues and also ancillary activities.
