WHY PERAK |
Located about 200km north of Kuala Lumpur, Perak is a politically stable and dynamic State with vibrant and diverse economic activities, amidst a harmonious multicultural society.
The State is committed to realise the vision of KPerak2010. Towards this end, 3 important knowledge development areas are being prepared; the Knowledge Infrastructure (K-Infra), Knowledge Economy (K-Economy) and Knowledge Society (K-Society).
The first milestone for K-Infra development was the achievement of MSC Cybercentre status for 345 acres of land in Meru Valley. Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and the promise of MSC’s 10 Bill of Guarantees, MSC@Perak is designed to jumpstart ICT innovations and initiatives in the State. The aim is to improve ICT cum Internet availability, affordability, accessibility and reliability in urban and rural areas where the demand for ICT connectivity is required.
The K-Economy thrust encompasses both existing and new economic sectors. The strategy hinges on developing ICT as an industry as well as ICT as an enabler to spur new economic activities and enhance value creation. The aim is to e-enable major industries by tapping the potential synergy from the interaction between new technologies and educated population within an enabling environment for the attainment of knowledge - based economies.
Sustainable human capital development is a key component of K-Society. Perak has outlined a 5As strategy; consisting of Access (by providing equal access to PC and internet to the society), Awareness (by running awareness programme and engagement activities), Academy (by running basic and advanced ICT courses), Add Value (by enhancing community access points) and Adoption (by implementing commercial and social activities); to build confidence across different segments of the communities in embracing the ICT lifestyle by providing the people with access to technology, skills to use technology; and reason to continue using technology.
