The State of Perak is one of the 13 states in Malaysia and is the second largest in the Peninsula measuring 21,005 km2. Perak borders Kedah and Thailand towards the North, Penang to the Northwest, Selangor to the South, Kelantan and Pahang towards the East and the Straits of Malacca to the West.
Almost half of Perak is covered with forests as much as 10,502km2 where by 95.6% of it is Equatorial Rainforest and the remaining 4.4% is covered by mangrove forests.

Population/Demography
Perak's population is now approximately 2 million. Once Malaysia's most populous state, the decline in the tin mining industry caused an economic slowdown from which it has yet to recover, leading to a massive drain in manpower to higher-growth states such as Penang, Selangor and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. The ethnic composition of the population was estimated in 2001 to be: Malay (962,050 or 44%), Chinese (924,000 or 42%), Indian (308,600 or 14%), Other (50,000), Other Bumiputra (41,400). Perak notes an annual increase of 1.4% in population.
